Dec 27, 2010 #1 I recently picked up a craftsman 2x42 grinder off of craigslist. I want to get a glass platen (sp?) for it from usaknifemaker. Does anyone know the size I need? WebJun 1, 2015 · I too have a craftsman 2x42 and have done a few of the mods you have as well. upgraded the tracking knob, cut the right side off of the rest for belt access, and added a 2" platen from USAknifemakers. i guess it's a moot point now but i'll continue in the spirit of this thread with my experiences and fears.

I run a 1 1/2" pulley on my motor and a 5 1/2" pulley on my Coote. That cuts my speed to just under 800 sfpm with a 10" drive wheel. Not enough advantage in my book to justify the couple hundred more you'll pay for it. I'm not sure what problems you're having with the 2x42 because I've ground stuff up to 3/16ths.
