Underground farm plots must be placed on soil or muddy stone. Soil quality will be decreased when building a subterranean farm on anything other than a muddy cavern floor. WebIn Dwarf Fortress, 'irrigation' is used as a fancy word for dumping water onto terrain that isn't useful for farming, in order to make it so. Once your floor is successfully muddied, no further irrigation will be required, unless you somehow accidentally remove the mud (by building a constructed floor or chopping down a tree, for instance).

If you have a stubborn spot that just won't fill, move your zones around to target that spot.
